Our story is as rich and diverse as our soils, blending history, passion, and our deep connection to the land. At the heart of this estate stands our Fountain, a symbol of the enduring commitment to crafting exceptional wines while honoring the natural surroundings.
A tale of legacy and commitment
The Fountain, the icon of Waterford Estate, is our legacy and serves as more than just a decorative centerpiece; it is a narrative etched in water, symbolising the journey of the Ord family and their dedication to preserving the essence of nature. Inspired by the waterfalls cascading from the surrounding mountains, the fountain embodies the vitality that sustains the vineyards and nourishes the roots of Waterford Estate.
The traditions of the Old World with the innovation of the New World
Waterford Estate seamlessly blends old-world charm with new-world innovation, a testament to the founders' quest for excellence. The Tuscan architecture of the estate's buildings pays homage to traditional winemaking methods learned from foreign old-world wine regions, while the pure passion imbued into every bottle reflects the dedication to crafting breathtaking wines. With a foot firmly planted in the Old World, we aim to lead the innovative nature of the New World.

Terroir: The soul of our wines
The Stellenbosch region's ancient soils are the backbone of Waterford Estate's winemaking philosophy, imparting a unique sense of place to each varietal. Cabernet Sauvignon, the flagship grape of the Helderberg Mountain, thrives in these old soils, showcasing the character and quality expected in every bottle of Waterford's fine wine.

Exploration and discovery
Waterford Estate is not merely focused on Cabernet Sauvignon; we boast a diverse planting of eleven different red grape varieties and one white grape variety, in Chardonnay. This Chardonnay vineyard has stood the test of time, being planted in 1988 the vine has acquired Old Vine Project status and continues to teach us the delicate means one has to go through the maintain an older vineyard. This commitment to exploration and discovery reflects the essence of South African culture and fuels the passion for crafting wines that captivate the senses and ignite the imagination.
