The Waterford Way

We create authentic experiences that honour nature, nurture vineyards, and craft lasting memories. It’s a journey that extends beyond the glass, embodying a deep sense of belonging and a passion for excellence from vineyard to cellar.

Where authenticity meets excellence

We take pride in producing fine wine from our meticulously selected grapes, as our cellarmaster, Mark Le Roux, and our viticulturist, David van Schalkwyk, understand that grapevines achieve optimal quality when nurtured in harmony with their natural environment. This approach leads to exceptional grapes and authentic wines, with the resilience and vigour of the vine fundamentally linked to its symbiotic relationship with the surrounding ecosystem. We believe fine wine should reflect its cultivar, terroir, and balance, with complexity, length, and harmony between aromatics and palate.

Roots for a better future

By embracing regenerative farming practices, such as minimising soil disturbance, incorporating cover crops, and promoting biodiversity, we can help create a healthier and more resilient ecosystem for our vineyard.

The role of regenerative
farming in premium wine

Regenerative farming elevates premium wine by focusing on soil health and biodiversity. By replacing chemicals with compost and cover crops, we nurture a thriving microbiome that strengthens vines, producing wines true to our terroir and sustainability values.

Building sustainable partnerships for the future

Our commitment to sustainability shines through in our WWF Conservation Champion status, as one of 55 recognised wine brands. We champion biodiversity, environmental stewardship, and have aligned with the Porto Protocol and IPW programme.

The Waterford experience

Our wine cellar surrounds the courtyard, with the iconic fountain at its heart, offering a glimpse into the winemaking process. Inspired by nearby waterfalls, it symbolises the life force that nourishes our vineyards and embodies the Waterford Way in every drop of wine.

Tailored experiences

Our estate is ideal for anniversaries, corporate events, and social gatherings. Enjoy curated menus paired with our exquisite wines. Our Tasting Room team and Events Manager provide personalised experiences, ensuring every detail is flawlessly executed.

A taste of excellence

We believe in nothing less than extraordinary wine. Our fine wines are crafted from the finest grapes, showcasing balance, length, complexity, and a true sense of terroir - reflecting the unique influences of soil, climate, and tradition. With careful winemaking practices, we create wines that age gracefully, allowing rich tannins and phenolic compounds to develop elegant flavours over time. Each sip reveals the artistry and passion behind every bottle.

Quality

Our tastings offer more than just a glass of wine - they offer a journey into the heart of winemaking, where wine lovers can immerse themselves in the art, science, and passion that define our craft.

Sustainability

Regenerative farming is at the heart of our philosophy, shaping both our vineyards and winemaking. Every step prioritises ecosystem health, ensuring a thriving planet for future generations.

Hospitality

From the moment you arrive, our team ensures you feel at home as you explore our vineyards and taste our exquisite wines. Our genuine passion and care will leave you with lasting memories.

"The experience was the Porcupine Trail Walk. The weather was not conducive to completion of the full walk so an extended cellar tour and wine tasting was organised. Staff is superb, knowledgeable and very friendly."

"The wines are absolutely amazing, but the highlight of this visit was by far the wine drive with Brett. There’s something truly special about enjoying Chardonnay right by the Chardonnay block in the vineyard. Plus, if you're going to spend three hours discussing wine in a Land Rover, it has to be with someone knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate. Every inch of Waterford is breathtaking!"

“The Jem is gloriously unique, built on a base of Cabernet Sauvignon with 52% Syrah, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese and Barbera towering above it. Part Bordeaux, part Rhône Valley part northern Italy, it's also uniquely South African, with stylish, perfumed, elegant aromas and flavours of red and black fruits, nuanced oak and a long, tapering finish.”
